Internships harness the extraordinary talent of college students and are critical to ensuring better career outcomes and social mobility. Emerson Collective, in partnership with College Track and leading companies and non-profits in California, will match first-generation college students with eight-week paid internships for summer 2021.

Our Internships

All FirstGen internships will be full-time remote working arrangements for summer 2021. Opportunities include internships at biomedical research labs, law firms, investment funds, and early to late-stage start-up technology companies, spanning cleantech, fintech, health, and education. Non-profit organizations focused on social justice, immigration, environment, health, education, and journalism are also offering FirstGen internships. Roles include:

Our Program

Emerson Collective will support FirstGen Interns with professional development and networking opportunities tailored to their field to ensure an enriching summer experience. Mission-driven companies and non-profits will have the opportunity to expand their capacity and experience the benefits of working with diverse college students.


College Track college students from East Palo Alto, Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento and San Francisco who are rising juniors, rising seniors, and recent college graduates may apply. Students participating in summer school are not encouraged to apply as these roles are all designed to be full-time commitments.

Key Dates

  • Jan 8 - Feb 28: All applications will be considered on a rolling basis, but we are unable to guarantee interviews for all candidates
  • March 1 - April 2: Candidates screened and interviews completed by participating organizations
  • April 9: Employers communicate decisions
  • April 16: Deadline for students to accept offers
  • June 21: Internships begin
  • August 13: Internships conclude
