The Transformative Power of Renewables in Hawaii

Elemental

Posted July 2017

Emerson Elemental’s Andy Karsner and Dawn Lippert on Hawaii’s enormous leaps forward in energy innovation.

Since the 2008 rollout of the Hawaiian Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI), Hawaii has been rapidly deploying new renewable energy resources to displace oil-fired power plants. Dawn Lippert, CEO of Elemental Excelerator and Director of Innovation and Community at Emerson Elemental, and Andy Karsner, Managing Partner at Emerson Collective, joined the GreenBiz VERGE Hawaii conference in June 2017 to discuss the ongoing energy transformation in Hawaii.

Accelerating progress in the field of clean energy requires a combination of passion and performance. To find this, look no further than Hawaii, where organizations like Elemental Excelerator have sparked innovation and deployed new technologies to integrate resources such as wind and solar while empowering residents and businesses to better manage their energy and water use. Today, Hawaii derives more than 26% of its energy from renewables, with the goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2045. We're moving fast, but are we moving fast enough?
